Clijsters beats Wozniacki in Hua Hin Exhibition
More than Bt20 million was spent to stage the Centennial match between former world No 1s Caroline Wozniacki and Kim Clijsters in Hua Hin on January 1. Kim Clijsters won an exhibition match against Caroline Wozniacki at the 84 World Tennis Invitation at Hua Hin Centennial Park on New Year's Day. This has been warm up for the Australian Open for both players.
The world no3 Clijsters used her forehand to keep Wozniacki off balance in the first set, but Wozniacki's game has improved in the second following a temporary power failure that forced part of the match to be played in poor light.
The match was part of the 84 World Tennis Invitation in Hua Hin held to celebrate the New Year and honor HM the King who turns 84 in 2011. After the match, the players hit 84 autographed tennis balls into the stands.
On 29 December Clijsters and Wozniacki visited the hospital in Bangkok where HM the King is staying. HM the King has been in the hospital for almost a year. While they did not see HM the King, Clijsters and Wozniacki presented gifts and wished HM the King best of health at a ceremony outside the hospital.
